Description of Work
Foster Extension Talent (40%)
Expected outcome: Extension professionals achieve excellence in developing and delivering high-impact, learner-centered educational programming on issues critical to Nebraskans.
Build trust by establishing an inclusive culture that appreciates and recognizes all contributions, uses open communication, is responsive to questions, and follows through with commitments.
Attract, hire, coach, develop and retain diverse talent working closely with the Dean and Director, appropriate program leader, department head/chair and business center;
Supervise Extension professionals through coaching and performance management to achieve Excellence in Extension (https://myextension.unl.edu/excellence-extension).
Encourage and support professional development in the pedagogy of Extension.
Stakeholder Connections (20%)
Expected outcome: Stakeholders value their relationship with Nebraska Extension, contribute to our excellence, partner with resources and champion our people and programs. Foster strong partnerships with elected officials, county government, Extension Boards and advisory groups (business, industry, etc) with effective communication, identification of shared interests and opportunities to collaborate;
? Coordinate strong public relations and program marketing initiatives that represent Extension and IANR relative to issues, needs, and opportunities in the region. Coordinators connect Extension work to contemporary research results.
? Facilitate Extension Board development, advocacy training and engagement with elected officials.
UNL Engagement (40%)
Expected outcome: Collaborative relationships with local leaders produce university-community initiatives that generate mutual benefit to all parties.
? Establish productive working relationships with local leaders, businesses, industry and organizations defined by clear outcomes, shared responsibilities and necessary resources.
? Identify key emerging issues in the engagement zone and continuously examine those issues for relevance and priority.
? Connect university faculty, staff and students with local leaders encouraging them to collaborate on solutions to critical issues leading to significant positive impact.
Cross-functional expectations:
? Articulate the vision and direction of Nebraska Extension.
? Build strong and functional working relationships with the Lead Educators in your Zone and with your Engagement Zone Coordinator cohort.
? Through a strong relationship with the Greater Nebraska Business Center, establish best business and human resource practices.
? Serve as an engaged and collegial member of the Extension Leadership Team.
? Build opportunistic connections with Research, Extension and Education Centers, departments, Centers and other key UNL people and resources.
? Seek professional development to enhance administrative skills, stay current with innovations in leadership and management skills and Extension pedagogy.
This position will support Engagement Zone 3: https://extension.unl.edu/engagement-zones/. The office location in each zone will be determined based on Coordinator location and resources available. Travel to and time in all counties in the Engagement Zone is expected. Operational resources will be allocated based on the requirements of each individual Engagement Zone.
The Engagement Zone Coordinator is expected to assume other duties and responsibilities as needed in support of statewide Extension and Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources programs.
Travel is required. Must meet driver standards according to UNL policy and have a valid driver's license. Criminal history background check will be conducted.
Minimum Required Qualifications
• Master's Degree in a field of study relevant to Extension.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in Extension or closely related field.
• Experience in working with individuals, coworkers and/or teams to accomplish individual and/or group goals.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in engaging diverse and/or underserved clients/partners.
• Experience in the development and delivery of effective educational programs.
• Experience in building relationships with stakeholders, elected officials and/or community leaders.
• Experience in resource development (external funding, donations and/or public private partnerships).
