THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Researcher 1 performs a broad range of biological testing and procedures using standard scientific techniques and methods. This position records, analyzes, and reports results for in vitro and in vivo studies testing antivirals against the New World Alphaviruses at BSL3 and ABSL3.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops and executes assays to measure and detect or analyze viral replication and host response in cell lines, animal tissues, and/or fluids.
  2. Designs, optimizes, and/or validates all assays using appropriate instrumentation.
  3. Measures the response of viruses or viral proteins to antiviral drugs; explores the response of other pathogens of interest to antiviral drugs.
  4. Supports all aspects of in-vitro or animal studies of pathogens for life history drug studies.
  5. Utilizes MS Office Suite products and statistical analysis tools to analyze and present data.
  6. Publishes and presents data in papers and at internal/external meetings.
  7. Monitors budget for supplies; maintains inventory of supplies and reagents.
  8. Develops protocols and/or standard operating procedures for all techniques utilized.
  9. Completes data analysis including statistical analysis and prepares reports.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Virology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of related research or laboratory experience in a laboratory environment OR Master’s Degree in Molecular Virology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field and one (1) year of related research or laboratory experience. Must be able to pass the Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment for work with Select Agents and Toxins.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to conduct effective literature searches, analyze, and present data.
  • Ability to utilize all MS Office Suite products, Sigma Plot, or other statistical software products.
  • Ability to follow protocols and aid in protocol development for standard operating protocols.
  • Ability to work in BSL2 or BSL 3 environment.
  • Ability to observe and follow appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding, and performing Standard Operating Procedures, Good Laboratory Practices, and study protocols.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends.
