Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgeon
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine


The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, is recruiting a new full-time faculty member at the Assistant/Associate Professor, appointment stream, in the subspecialty of sports medicine. The qualified physician will be actively involved in patient care; medical student, resident, and fellow teaching in the area of sports medicine; and orthopedic research. This position will provide patient care at the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine, SouthSide, and the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township.

One of the nation's top orthopedic programs, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery offers a wide range of specialty services, uses innovative techniques, and conducts vital research. From general orthopedics and sports medicine to knee disorders, hip conditions, and joint reconstruction, we offer treatments for the simple to the most complex orthopedic conditions. Our nationally recognized experts focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries for both adults and children.

The UPMC Freddie Fu Center for Sports Medicine, SouthSide, is a state-of-the-art facility with a multidisciplinary approach to sports injuries and performance. The Center was the first of its kind in the US to have the resources of a major academic and clinical system with professional and collegiate sports team programs. It attracts local/national/international patients and has treated hundreds of elite world-class athletes. The UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, Cranberry Township, serves as a comprehensive outpatient facility for UPMC Sports Medicine. This facility features space dedicated to UPMC Sports Medicine’s orthopedic, physical therapy, concussion, imaging, and sports performance services. This multi-use facility is a destination for athletes of all ages and skill levels seeking leading-edge injury prevention and treatment from experts in sports medicine.

Qualifications Include:

  • A medical degree from an accredited medical school;
  • Completion of an accredited orthopedic residency training program;
  • Completion of an accredited sports medicine fellowship program;
  • Eligibility for licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania;
  • Board-eligible or Board-certification in orthopedic surgery.

Qualified physician applicants should have a significant interest and ability in clinical care and teaching. As part of an academic faculty, dedication to teaching medical students, residents, and fellows will be required. Candidates should possess strong clinical, interpersonal, analytical, and writing skills, as well as a history of scholarly publications and presentations, and evidence of interest in and involvement in research. Academic rank [Assistant (0-5 years of experience) / Associate (6-9 years of experience)] is commensurate with prior academic achievements and experience.
