SOS Temporary Staffing (SOSTS)

SOSTS is part of the University of Missouri-Columbia Human Resources department providing temporary staffing services for the entire University of Missouri System. We are always recruiting for our talent pool of qualified, skilled candidates. We employ people of all legal working ages, including University of Missouri students and retirees.   • University retirees may work up to 29.6 hours per week (0.74 FTE).
  • University students may work up to 28 hours per week (0.70 FTE).
  • University international students may work up to 20 hours per week (0.50 FTE).
Job Description

The University's temporary staffing needs change daily! These positions are typical of the requests we receive for office staff:
  • Administrative assistant
  • Executive assistant
  • Office Support Associate
  • Fiscal Assistant
Salary

Pay range is $14.00 per hour and up. Pay varies from department to department and depends on duties, responsibilities, and the department's budget.

Shifts

Hours vary depending on the nature of each assignment. Most office assignments happen Monday to Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM. On rare occasions, early morning, evening and/or weekend hours may be needed.

Minimum qualifications
  • A stable work history
  • An excellent attendance history
  • Verifiable references
  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired (education or training beyond high school may be substituted for experience)
  • Ability in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Preferred qualifications
  • Applicants should have at least one year of office experience.
  • Strong keyboarding skills are a plus.

SOSTS temporary staff are variable-hour employees and not eligible for University benefits.

However, eligibility for medical insurance is different because of thePatient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Under the PPACA, some variable-hour employees become eligible for UM System medical insurance while staying ineligible for the University's other insurance plans.
