Job Description

The Dr. Raj Bala Agrawal Care Center, within the Office of Student Involvement, is responsible for providing free access to nutritious food for students experiencing food insecurity. The Dr. Raj Bala Agrawal Care Center is rapidly expanding to meet the needs of our students. The Food Assistance Coordinator is integral in setting and ensuring a positive experience for the Care Center team and guests.

The Food Assistance Coordinator has direct oversight for the planning, coordinating, implementing and assessing of the operations of the Dr. Raj Bala Agrawal Care Center. This position is a full-time staff member leading the Care Center's food security efforts for UMKC students and is charged with developing associated resources and operational support. Additionally, the Coordinator will work with students in order to help them apply for other programs such as SNAP assistance that may be available to assist them with their needs.

The coordinator partners with on-campus departments in order to assist in the facilitation of services for students. They are also charged with relationship-building with off-campus community members and organizations to increase the resources available to students within the Dr. Raj Bala Agrawal Care Center.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee the Care Center food pantry network including campus pantries at multiple locations. Supply management (receiving and organizing deliveries, sending supplies in between the multiple pantries, stocking shelves, inventorying supply to determine distribution plan), supervision, promoting the pantries, communicating with staff and other departments, organizing and analyzing usage data.
• Driving a state vehicle to pick up and receive food purchases and donations.
• Ensuring the maintenance of both the facility and equipment as well as maintaining standard operating procedures of the Care Center.
• Provides coordination and implementation of university community outreach efforts, including, but not limited to, involvement fairs, orientation expos, open houses, and campus food drives.
• Serve as primary liaison for partnership with Harvesters, ensuring reporting, compliance and receiving of food deliveries.
• Develop and deliver campus-wide educational programs and outreach related to student food security.
• Build and maintain relationships with numerous campus and community resources including, but not limited to, SNAP application assistance programs and Missouri Extension.
• Selects, supervises and trains student staff (inclusive of undergraduate and graduate staff, and volunteers.) Effectively and judiciously assists in managing the budget and financial accounts for the Care Center (donations and expenditures).
• Engages in comprehensive assessment, evaluation, and program improvement processes.
• Fosters an environment that embraces and integrates disparate communities.
• Serve as an advocate and information resource to students, faculty/staff, and the UMKC community/stakeholders regarding the specific food security needs of students.
• This position will include periodic extended work hours and weekend assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years experience in the field of student development or relevant experience managing student programs in a higher education setting. (Relevant experience may substitute for qualifications.)
  • Must be able to routinely sit, stand, kneel, lift, and bend for up to 8 hours. Position requires the occasional lifting of objects in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Must have a driver's license and the ability to drive a university vehicle for deliveries and pickups.
  • Experience or knowledge of food security, public health, campus food pantry operations, food banks, social services, or inventory management.
  • Experience in operations, organizational planning and community relations.
  • Experience or knowledge of food security, public health, campus food pantry operations, food banks, social services, or inventory management.
  • Knowledge of theory and national research, issues, and current events regarding college students, particularly under-served populations
  • Student staff supervision experience.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Starting salary: $51,875.00 annually.
