Job Description

The Department of Psychology and Counseling's mission is to support students in exploring the roots of human behavior and applying that knowledge to help people adopt behaviors and structure environments that will increase their longevity, performance, and quality of life. The department offers students strong and active collaborations with community partners around the Kansas City metropolitan area which help to expand the learning environment.

This position reports to the Department Chair and works collaboratively with faculty, students, and other departments. This position willassist the Department in all administrative capacities including division website, enrollment management efforts, preparing reports for accreditation and supervise Graduate Research Assistants as assigned.

Major Responsibilities and Activities:
  • Provide daily assistance to the Department and show initiative on short and long-term projects including faculty searches, website and database management, update faculty web pages, and prepare written correspondence
  • Answer main phone, order office supplies, schedule rooms for meetings, and other general office duties
  • Maintain confidential student files, advise prospective students on program and curriculum requirements, process all admissions paperwork, know electronic student information system, and act as the departmental contact for current students in Department programs
  • Assist the Dean's Office and faculty with departmental marketing and public relations projects (i.e. recruitment publications and invitations), assist in all student recruitment efforts as requested, organize all course evaluations for Department
  • Responsible for financial administration of all departmental accounts; completing budget revisions as necessary, process purchase requisitions and travel reimbursements for department faculty
  • Provide administrative assistance to departmental faculty members and adjunct faculty members, i.e. assist in all student recruitment efforts as requested
  • Assist with departmental meeting scheduling and record minutes, purchase meals, coordinate student orientations, and other administrative functions as assigned
  • Adhere to and assist with university policies and procedures as applicable to department faculty and overall job duties
  • Communicate with personnel in various departments, academic units and administrative levels within the University system
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary up to $18.50 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
