Job Description Summary:
Dr. Navneet Dhillon's Lab in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine is seeking a highly self-motivated, hardworking candidate to work in the laboratory at the University of Kansas Medical Center, focused on unraveling the molecular mechanisms involved in vascular dysfunction associated with cardio-pulmonary complications. This research will use imaging, physiological measurements, biochemical, proteomic, and microbiological techniques both in vitro and in vivo. The primary research focus of the lab is aimed at mechanistically understanding how viral infections in conjunction to pulmonary vascular injury. The current research focus of the lab is aimed at elucidating the role of long non-coding RNAs and miRNAs, extracellular vesicles and interplay of macrophages, and T cells in pulmonary vascular remodeling.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education: Master's degree with an emphasis in biological science, or a related discipline.

Work Experience:
  • Experience in cell culture, microscopy, and pre-clinical animal models.
  • Experience with biochemistry, pathogenesis, and imaging.
  • Demonstrated abilities that include attention to detail, strong work ethic, and good interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Anatomy & Physiology

Work Experience:
  • Experience with routine biochemical techniques, molecular biology, immunology skills (flow cytometry), immunohistochemistry, sterile cell culture, DNA, RNA, and protein-based assays
  • Experience working with BSL 2 pathogens
  • Animal handling experience with expertise in echocardiography, catheterization, and myography would be preferred.
  • Prior experience in cardia & vascular dysfunction, lung biology or any pulmonary disease models.
  • Experience with pre-clinical animal models

Skills:
  • Strong work ethics and can work and collaborate effectively in a team.
  • Excellent communication skills


Job Duties Outlined
  • Perform experiments using cell culture to understand pulmonary vascular injury. Experiments will involve primary cell culture, flow cytometry, biochemistry, molecular biology assays, techniques such as immunoblotting, and qPCR etc.
  • Perform experiments independently and as a team using pre-clinical animal models of pulmonary hypertension . Isolation of primary cells from rats.
  • Histological analysis: Immunochemistry, in-situ hybridization, Image acquisition and analysis including light-, fluorescence- and confocal- microscopy.
  • Conduct the proposed experiments, analyze (organize and record keeping), interpret and presentation of data.
  • Design new experimental plan independently in consultation with the supervisor
  • Managing Lab, ordering lab supplies, keeping track of invoices etc.
  • Run multiple independent projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
