Position Summary

Full Time

The Office of New Student Programs is seeking a professional to lead our orientation program which provides full-service onboarding and transition support to students and their families entering the Southeast Missouri State University community.

This individual will be responsible for engaging the entire campus community as we demonstrate the University's academic, social, and support programs.

The successful candidate will be energetic, creative, self-motivated, detail, and results oriented who can succeed working collaboratively with individuals across campus. They will become part of a dedicated team of student-centered individuals who are committed to providing personal support to every student.

This role is integral to the University's enrollment management and retention efforts and responsible for developing an onboarding program that meets the needs of new members of the University community so that institutional goals can be achieved.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manages planning, logistics, and execution of orientation programs for new and transfer students for both in person and virtual event types
  • Serves as “master of ceremonies” for campus orientation programs
  • Coordinates event communication including written and electronic channels
  • Selects, hires, trains, and supervises one graduate assistant, 40 student employees, and 150+ member volunteer team
  • Develops and maintains relationships with campus and community partners
  • Manages event and student data in orientation software (Visual Zen Orientation) and campus information systems
  • Utilizes campus technology to meet program and university goals
  • Represents the University at on-and off-campus events including evenings and weekends
  • Ensures customer service excellence is always demonstrated by New Student Programs team members


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (May 2024 graduates may be considered)
  • Experience working in higher education recruitment, admissions, orientation, advising, transition programs, or closely related settings
  • Experience with event management or program planning
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with both internal and external University constituents
  • Demonstrated experience using computer software and programs for event management, data analytics, communication and relationship building
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively to both large and small groups
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work alternate work schedules including nights and weekends
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds of event materials with or without accommodations
  • Possess a valid state driver's license
  • Demonstrates innovative approaches in problem solving
  • Exercises sound judgment
  • Excellent organizational skills and effective time management
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
