Water Systems Manager
WHAT WE DO
The South Adams County Water and Sanitation District (The District or SACWSD) is a Colorado special district formed in 1951 to provide water and sanitary sewer services to a 65 square mile area known as Commerce City and surrounding areas in unincorporated Adams County. With 108 full-time equivalent employees and an annual budget of $90,000,000, the District currently serves a population of approximately 67,000 customers and recently constructed a $60 million centralized water softening treatment facility utilizing innovative pellet seed technology. The Klein Water Treatment Facility is rated as a State of Colorado Class A facility.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The District is searching for a Manager who is prepared to lead the Water Systems Department in an exciting new era with state-of-the-art treatment technology, growth and expansion opportunities, to further advance our innovation as a leader in the water sector in addition to a continued commitment to providing affordable and sustainable quality water services to its customers. The District seeks a qualified, forward-looking and innovative Water Systems Manager to lead us into the future.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Manage, direct, oversee, plan, and coordinate activities and operation of the District's water system including water rights, water treatment/conveyance and water quality.
- Ensure adequate water supply and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Manage the District's water court processes.
- Manage and oversee a highly effective staff and plant including direct supervision of department supervisors. Directly, and through subordinate supervisors, develop, maintain and retain an effective staff inclusive of but not limited to recruiting, training, mentoring, coaching, directing and assigning work, and appraising performance.
- Prepare annual and long-range operating and capital expenditure budgets for water systems to ensure the plant is operated in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Provides strategic planning and implementation of programs and projects.
- Attend District, Board of Director, and relevant industry and outside agency meetings.
- Positively represent the District with various private parties, public and governmental committees, associations, groups, municipalities, and developers. Promotes a professional image of the District at all times.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION
- Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, civil engineering, management, water resources or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A minimum of five (5) years related experience in water utility management
- A minimum of five (5) years management and leadership experience required, with demonstrated leadership providing coaching, mentoring and feedback
- Demonstrated experience with strategic planning and problem solving
- Demonstrated strong communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated leadership providing training, mentoring and constructive feedback
- Computer skills including proficient knowledge of MS Office products as well as other programs including asset management software, and SCADA technology.
The successful candidate has:
- Knowledge of Colorado water rights

- Demonstrated experience or working knowledge of communities similar to the District's service area

- Proven success in a leadership role with a governmental water and/or sanitary sewer provider
- Experience administering a system that provides highly regulated services

- Expected annual salary range of $97,000-130,000
