The Director of Production Facilities at the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media will serve as the integrated director of operations across the experiential media and performing arts co-curricular and extracurricular facilities, which are designed as professionally-run production entities housed within the School of Communication, Media, and the Arts. These facilities currently include WSOU 89.5 FM, the Television Studio, the on-campus Theatre, and ancillary on-campus similar facilities (e.g., University Center satellite studio, Sound Production Lab, and the like).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Director, Production Facilities
Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Director of Production Facilities is responsible for the successful administration and operation of all production facilities as a General Manager. The lead on systems of scheduling use of production facilities. Takes the lead on creating and maintaining system solutions for all operations. Liaisons with University Departments such as Public Safety, Information Technology, TLTC, Facilities & Engineering, Housekeeping, etc, for use of resources to access, maintain and operate facilities and their equipment safely and successfully. Develop and maintain systems of hiring/training/evaluating facilities personnel to inform recommendations regarding student and professional staff/administrators, on responsibilities, technical proficiencies, and interpersonal communication. Overall, to ensure adherence within all necessary policies and procedures of the College and University, along with all community/industry guidelines, standards and practices, including regulatory compliance, as applicable (e.g., FCC).
- Production Manager
The position will take on the multifaceted role of production manager, holding duties and responsibilities with regards to the specific production of media and performing arts within the facilities. To provide individual students, faculty, and professional staff/administrators the advisement necessary to produce 24-hour streaming/broadcast content, full seasons of live theatrical and music performance, and all their related instructional and extracurricular activity. Will monitor and advise on production and broadcast schedules and provide problem-solving presence beyond what can be handled by students, faculty and other professional staff. Using professional standards and expectations, the Director will serve as an integrated leader and mentor to students participating in the creation of media and performing arts production.
- Technical Facilitator/Advisor
Working with facility-specific personnel at WSOU 89.5, the Television Studio, the Theatre and the ancillary on-campus production facilities, the Director will serve as technical advisor to assure the investments of equipment and tools are consistently refreshed and maintained, operated safely and to the best of their potential. The position will also see to it that all facility's users, operate within established procedures and guidelines developed to successfully and safely participate in all activities. Implement, develop and monitor systems of hiring recommendations and training at production facilities to efficiently handle production schedules. Make recommendations and appropriate budget tracking, purchase and ongoing maintenance of facilities equipment. Lead initiatives, special projects and workshops related to technical advancement of personnel's skills and production facilities.
- Production & Performing Arts Program Coordinator
Working with the Associate Dean of the College alongside faculty and professional staff, the position will implement initiatives such as those related to DEI, and provide advisory, problem-solving presence all in service of the school, College and University mission. Working closely with University Relations, the Director will develop marketing strategies for programming, activities and events - especially those related to Production Facilities.
- Director, Production Facilities Event & Rental Services
Draft, recommends, and implements managerial strategy to provide services as a production facilities complex for University departments, activities or other outside organizations and institutions. Maintains presence to offer revenue-generating rental solutions for clients seeking production facility services in the areas of media production and the performing arts (when available resources allow). Coordinates such processes from marketing development to point of sale and on through completion of event. This area of the position will also entail coordinating services for production activities that potentially take place off-campus with students, programs, partners or clients requiring the use of production equipment or personnel on behalf of the College.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree related to Media Production, Technical Theatre, and/or Arts Administration
- 5-8 years of Performing Arts and/or Media Production Facility Management experience
- Familiarity with a variety of production facilities (theatres, radio, tv/film broadcast facility strongly preferred)
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in related field
- 8+ years of Performing Arts and/or Media Production Facility Management experience
