The Facilities Management Housing Maintenance Department at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Trades/Utilities Senior Worker (full-time, 12 month) position. The Trades/Utilities Senior Worker will perform skilled repair and maintenance tasks, as assigned by the maintenance supervisor, in maintaining the mechanical, structural, electrical, and plumbing components of the assigned building and grounds.

Required Education: General technical knowledge of primary building maintenance.

Required Qualifications: Ability to make repairs to electrical, plumbing, mechanical and structural building components, and grounds independently. Able to perform skilled repair and maintenance tasks in one or more specialized trade/utilities area. Working skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic tools, instruments, equipment, hand, and power tools. Experience performing general work in a variety of trades areas – with some experience performing skilled work in the assigned trades/utilities area. High School Diploma or equivalent. Training in skilled trade/craft.

Special Licenses, registration, or certification: Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

Additional Considerations: Journeyman or Master’s License in skill trades relating to Maintenance of all types i.e., Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC and Carpentry. Maintenance experience in the higher Education environment. Computer usage skills desired.

Conditions of Employment: Facilities Management employees are considered essential personnel and subject to working during university closings. This is an open until filled recruitment. This recruitment may close after the five-day required posting period when a suitable pool of applicants has been generated. Shift is 3:00pm to 12:00am, Monday-Friday with occasional weekends.
