Nature of Work
Under general supervision from the Director of Information Systems, performs technical work involving networking hardware and software used to support the City/County networking system.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Responsible for installing networking software, hardware and cabling systems; as well as maintaining installed hardware and software.
Provide technical assistance in the use of networking services; evaluating network hardware and software, and prepare reports.
Provide technical assistance to department computer users and/or refer them to appropriate personnel for assistance.
Install and configure PC workstations, printers, other network hardware and software, perform hardware and software upgrades to existing systems, and assist employees in their use; perform PC tune up, defrag and virus checks.
Troubleshoot computer problems to determine cause of failure and perform necessary repairs.
Maintain equipment documentation consisting of purchasing information, original and current configuration, installed software and repair information.
Set up and maintain security profiles; perform application and data backup procedures on department computers; and provide recommendations for acquiring and replacing computer equipment to include research of end user's needs.
Perform other work which is consistent with the essential elements of the job.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of computer capabilities and associated networking equipment.
- Ability to install, operate and maintain computer equipment running Microsoft, and Linux Operating Systems
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in analyzing network systems and to make recommendations and modifications.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently.
- Knowledge of routers, switches, UNIX Server, Windows Servers and printers.
- Knowledge of structured wiring systems.
- Ability to analyze customer requirements and document/design appropriate solutions.
- Ability to use common hand tools.
- Ability to perform sedentary physical work and to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, data suppliers, users and the public.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Possess an Associate's Degree in Computer Information Systems, or equivalent degree with two years' work experience in the installation, maintenance and operation of Local or Wide Area Networks. Applicants with five years' work experience with network systems will be considered.
PAY $22.14 to $31.16
