Nebraska Wesleyan University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Scenic Design position for the Theatre Arts Program. The start date for this position will be August 2024.

Nebraska Wesleyan University is a private university with a commitment to liberal arts and approximately 1600 students. The University is located in the capital city of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Responsibilities:

This faculty member will play a primary role in coordinating and expanding NWU's BFA Design and Technology program. Responsibilities in this position include teaching undergraduate design and technology classes and fulfilling two scenic design responsibilities each semester. Having a versatile range of design training, knowledge of design history and styles, and experience with Vectorworks and other current design technologies is preferred. Experience in other design and technology areas (lighting, sound, props, stage management) is a plus. Teaching in NWU's innovative Archway Curriculum is also anticipated.

The Professor will work closely with other Design Faculty, Technical Director, and Scene and Costume Shop Managers, as well as help facilitate communication with guest designers and mentor student designers. Designer has access to a CNC router and extensive costume and props libraries. A strong commitment to participate in prospective student recruitment, academic advising, and community outreach is essential.

Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Theatre or MA with five or more years of professional scenic design experience.
  • Previous teaching experience and prospective student recruitment experience preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty, staff, directors and designers.
  • Ability to maintain a strong, positive, professional approach to theatre training.
