The Medical University of South Carolina, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment to serve as the Coordinator for Student Affairs for the hybrid format of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program. This eight-semester DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities that provide the same curriculum as the residential program. This hybrid position allows faculty members to live remotely from the MUSC campus. However, DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Charleston for designated periods each semester for teaching and/or required program events. The successful faculty candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring activities within the DPT program, develop a scholarly agenda, and participate in community and professional service appropriate to a senior faculty member. Combinations of areas of clinical expertise are welcome, and we encourage interdisciplinary and diverse perspectives.

Preferred candidate qualifications:

Ideally, we seek a collegial individual who either has a terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities (Ph.D., Ed.D., etc.) or a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT) with an American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) or certification credentials appropriate for their teaching responsibilities. This is a non-tenured track faculty position with a salary and rank commensurate with qualifications. Ideally, we seek candidates with more than six years of experience as a faculty member. We prefer candidates who have previously achieved the rank of Associate Professor or Professor who have a proven and strong track record of scholarship, graduate student advising, teaching at the Doctoral level, and preferably some research funding. Additionally, the successful candidate will understand higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy and knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy within the United States. The candidate will also need to seek a license or be eligible for licensure in South Carolina (or compact) in addition to their state of residence. Successful candidates should possess excellent communication skills and strong computer skills to meet the needs of our online didactic instructional format. We desire a team-oriented colleague who is willing and able to collaborate and share instructional methods and student-learning activities. We are also eager to identify candidates who genuinely appreciate evidence-based teaching, technology integration within the classroom, and building a student-centered community within the online classroom.

Administrative Responsibilities:

The successful candidate serving in the Coordinator of Student Affairs role is expected to develop and oversee the coaching and mentoring activities within the DPT program and enhance current teaching and student retention within the DPT program. This individual is responsible for the intersection of program mission, unique delivery of curriculum, and student success. This candidate should be able to develop processes and procedures to encourage student success across the program in collaboration with the residential program. Specifically, the coordinator of student affairs (CSA) functions include support for program orientation, progression and retention, and advisement. CSA responsibilities include forming advisory groups for each DPT cohort in their respective program (hybrid or residential), facilitating the election of advisory group student leaders, training faculty advisors, and ensuring ongoing faculty compliance with the program. This individual works to integrate MUSC DPT hybrid students into MUSC culture and serves as the primary point of contact/liaison for student services for student issues related to distance learning life. Additionally, the CSA will work with advisors, course faculty, and students to address academic and non-academic emergencies or urgent issues. They also serve as Chair of the Professionalism Committee (hybrid format), oversee student advisement, academic progression and retention, professional behaviors, scholarship, and awards, and provide recommendations to the DPT hybrid program director and faculty for informed decision-making.
