NATURE OF WORK
Under general direction, performs a wide variety of complex clerical duties and administrative assistant work functions.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Performs complete clerical duties for the City Administrator and the Mayor; handles confidential matters concerning major policy; keeps advised of the current status of the work of the Administration; takes dictation and transcribes; composes and types correspondence; receives and directs office visitors and telephone calls by referring citizens to proper officials and providing information when requested.
Receives citizen complaints, forwarding the complaint information to the proper division and follow up of the action taken regarding the complaint.
Works directly with the Mayor and City Administrator in human resources functions.
Maintains and updates records for boards, committees and commissions; works closely with City Council relative to meeting notices, travel, media liaison and other details; frequently provides backup for the Secretary III positions in other departments and the City Clerk; prepares reports by finding, assembling and summarizing information and data; types proclamations; requisitions supplies; assists in administrative procedures and in keeping financial, budget, personnel and administrative records; carries out public and employee relations tasks.
Exercises discretion if the supervisor is not available for advice, may supervise other clerical employees; advises supervisor in improved office procedures and equipment.
Performs other work which is consistent with the essential elements of the job.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of modern office methods and equipment.
Knowledge of organizational and office planning functions.
Ability to take dictation at a minimum corrected speed of 80 WPM and to type from clear copy at 60 WPM.
Ability to spell and use good English.
Ability to post and to make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately.
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a word processor or CRT.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by computer and bookkeeping coursework and four years of responsible clerical experience involving the use of bookkeeping, computer and word processing skills. Competency in using the latest Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Access
May require certification as a Notary Public in the State of Nebraska.
Days/Time: Part-time (approx. 25-30 hours per week; may be eligible for pro-rated PTO)

Salary Range: $18.07 (hourly) to $25.26 (hourly)
