Production Mechanical Technician
DEPARTMENT: Low Flow Engineering
GRADE: JG 1
Job Summary:
Provides technical support for manufacturing departments in mechanical maintenance. Works directly with Engineering Manager, Line Engineers, and Setups when design changes would yield benefits. This position is accountable in obtaining required throughput rates and necessitates collaboration with Production and Engineering to achieve them. This position will be required at times to train technical people in machine adjustments and maintenance as well as machine monitoring to diagnose problems. During maintenance events this position will be required to lead, train, and perform preventative maintenance. The position will be involved with Engineering projects.
Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:
Diagnoses and corrects mechanical malfunctions.
Performs training and mentoring of setups and technical operators to build
Improves machine uptime and throughput rates to improve Plant financial performance.
Monitors and improves preventative maintenance on machines by working with production associates on skills and abilities.
Identifies areas of system weaknesses and works through and with leadership on solutions.
Recommends changes to the preventive maintenance program.
Performs major machine repair and overhaul as required, initiating purchase requisitions when outside repair is needed.
Advises Parts Crib Attendant of parts needed for immediate use or for stocking locations.
Manufactures and repairs parts as appropriate.
Works with Electrical Technicians if electrical modifications or programming changes would be beneficial.
Proposes design changes to leadership in the areas of equipment upgrade, problem elimination, quality improvements and reduced costs.
Works with Engineering and Production Setups on equipment rebuild requirements prior to shut down periods, as required. (Must Work During These Periods it is a Position Requirement).
Works with limited supervision and maintains an atmosphere of cooperation among and between shifts to facilitate Plant goals.
This position understands and monitors plant priorities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Requires at least one year of formal training in mechanical trades or equivalent related experience.
Experience
Requires a minimum of 3 years mechanical technical experience.
Physical Requirements- (Level 4)
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are more than those for Medium Work
Mental Requirements
Ability to read, write and understand English.
Equipment Use
Ability to operate fork truck, pallet truck, small hand tools, electronic etc. in successful completion of tasks. Must be a licensed forklift operator.
Working Conditions
Environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
Noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level.
Vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
Hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals and broken glass.
Atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases, or poor ventilation.
Oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
Supervision
Reports directly to Engineering Manager.
